Timeless Kitchen and Laundry Room

The homeowner's desire was to bring a fresh, updated look to her kitchen and laundry room, spaces untouched since she moved in years ago. One of the main challenges was the large, dated hood in the kitchen. Redoing it entirely wasn't in the budget, so we worked creatively with the builder, toning down its appearance with strategic replacements and a fresh coat of paint.

The transformation of the dry bar and butler's pantry area is particularly striking. With new wallpaper, painted cabinets, and a replaced countertop, this space now beautifully bridges the kitchen and dining room, flaunting a completely new look.

From the initial contact to completion, the project spanned nine months, with a four-week construction period. We ensured all items were ordered and ready for installation before beginning construction, leading to a smooth and efficient process. As always, we discussed the investment upfront to avoid any surprises at the end.

A key design approach was the use of corresponding colors throughout the spaces. While not identical, the shades were similar, creating a cohesive flow. The starting point was the laundry room wallpaper; its blues inspired the color palette for the entire area. From the fabric shade in the back hallway to the darker tones on the island and dry bar, and even hints in the breakfast room draperies, this color scheme linked the spaces together beautifully.

Our goal for the homeowner was to create spaces that evoke pride and utility without needing a complete overhaul. We envisioned her and her son enjoying meals together at the bar, and her son playing with his Legos in the breakfast room, fondly termed the "Lego room," while she prepares dinner. We also focused on making the laundry room not just functional but aesthetically pleasing, understanding how a beautiful space can positively impact one's mood during everyday tasks. This project is a testament to how thoughtful design and color coordination can rejuvenate spaces, turning them into cherished areas of the home.
